In this Chapter Foyle goes to Presteign's party under a fake name where he ends up getting caught because finally after a few chapters, Jisbella McQueen comes back. She had married Dagenham and loved him very much because he actually captured her and cared for her. She than ratted Foyle out because he left her when he was up in space. The neatest part is that Foyle falls in love with Presteign's albino daughter, Lady Olivia and they kiss. I am very curious to see what ends up happening with them (: -Marissa Kosko-Blyler
I agree with Marissa. I am very interested in seeing what will happen between Gully and Lady Olivia because Lady Olivia is Presteign's daughter and Presteign has been trying to get informaiton out of Gully for a long time so if her father finds out that Fourmyle of Ceres is Gully Foyle and that he is interested in his daughter he won't be very happy - Mara Hesley
pg. 163"'Good God!' Presteign was distinctly heard to say. Guests poured out of the house to watch... Behind him panted a steam locomotice drawing a single observation car." This is whenever Gully arrives at Presteign's party, and I think it is kind of cool at how Gully displays his wealth and instantly out-does Presteign, even at his own party. - Christian Graham
I can't believe Gully just falls in love with Presteign's daughter after meeting her for like what two minutes? she seemed nasty and rude to me but for some reason he found that attractive. i don't understand how Jiz is just suddenly in love with Dagenham even though she said she hates him so much and that she was in love with Gully. although if I was Jiz i would have done alot more to Gully than what she did, if he would leave me behind i would have done something far worse than just ratting him out so i don't blame her at all for telling Dagenham about Gully. Gully didn't even apologize to Jiz when he saw her alive. i'm not sure i like Gully very much at all he is out of control-Cheyenne
Re: first, Gully thought she was dead so he moved on. and she had a high seat in the "class" of the world, so mabey he thought it would help his chances of finishing his voyage. Jiz is jst mad at Gully for leaving her and prob wants to get back at him. and Gully shouldnt apologize, he is on a mission and wants to get it done the easiest way and doesnt want to deal with Jiz. -*Aaron Gromiller*
I thought the exact same thing, Cheyenne. I thought Gully and Jiz were a good couple because his blunt and rash nature and her calm and controlling nature seemed to fit together well. But all of a sudden he likes Olivia, who I think is a bit stuck up and unappealing. She may have a pretty face, but I don't like her attitude. -Casey Pipetti
Response: I agree with Cheyenne, because that did seem strange how quickly Gully falls in love with the Presteign's daughter. I do think that Jiz is not inlove with Dagenham, she is in love with Gully and she just do not what to say she does because I think she is still hurting from Gully leaving her.- Katelyn Broughton
I'm a bit confused on this whole relationship between Lady Olivia and Gully. I will be excited to see what happens in the future. As for right now, at times she seems like she may actually be falling in love with him, just as he may be falling in love with her. Then again, at other times, she seems like she wants nothing more than for him to leave. I can't tell whether she's playing a game with Gully or if she just doesn't know how to handle him. It seems to me like she is perhaps playing a game to see if Gully truly does care about her. - Danielle Heininger
Page 168- Dagenham picked it up in a flash. "Happier than when? Where did we meet before?" "Not happier than when; happier than me." Foyle turned to Presteign. "I've fallen desperately in love with Lady Olivia."
How does Gully know he is in love with Lady Olivia? He has only known her for a few minutes. I think maybe he is distracted by her rare beauty because when he is talking to her, none of what he is trying to say comes out right. This confused me because I thought he loved Jisabella then he abandoned her and let her die but she later returns in the book. Maybe it was like a love at first sight kind of thing with Gully and Lady Olivia, maybe he just knew- Mara Hesley
I agree i didn't understand how he could be so heartless towards Jiz, it's almost like he could care less that she was alive because he's so hooked on Olivia. I'm not sure i understand Gully's ways of thinking and how he try's controling himself. he just goes on rampages like kiling six of those people was ridiculous and he didn't even care about it. it didn't bother him that he left six dead people lay right there on the ground, he didn't think about that fact that they may have had family and friends and people they love. He just killed them all without ever thinking twice about it.-Cheyenne
Pg. 178: " 'I can't stand it anymore. i want you to let me go.' 'Go? Where?' ' To live my own life.' " Gully is taking Robin from her life and her serach for finding her family. All they've done is searched for Vorga and started wars. It's completely understandable her reason for wanting to leave Gully at this point. - Joel Redfoot
I completely agree with you, Joel. If i were Robin, I would want to leave too. He lies to her all of the time, and he promised her in the beginning that he would help her search for her family, who's to say that he will keep that promise? He probably only said that as a bribe to get her to go with him and help him out. Also, she wanted her life to end... now she probably really does. All he does is start wars (as you said) and she probably feels like she just doesnt want to live anymore. She was taken from her family and she just has to will to survive. -Janelle Meadows
A shrill whistle sounded in the distance. Down the track came a man on a white horse, carrying a large red flag. Page 164. This reminded me of a bull fighting match and made me wonder why they had this going on in the story when after this happened they started talking about a train and its conductor. - [lauryn colmer]
Pg. 167: "Lady Olivia...(Christ! Can't I say anything right? Where's Robin?)" I thought Robin was supposed to be telesending to him so he would know what to say. Where'd she go? Also, I don't think Olivia is very interested in Gully, but he makes a fool of himself when he is introducing himself to her. It's quite painful to read, actually. -Casey Pipetti
Response: I agreed. Gully doesn't seem like he is a nice man or anything charming, and he says about her not seeing his face but can't she feel it? I think if she felt his face she wouldn't like him anymore. To me Gully was also making himself look like a jerk. He wouldn't get out of the way so her friends could come, I thought it was rude and I would of told him to move.-Paiton Nipps
Pg.178: "You've been running. Haven't you ever heard of Attack-Escape? To run away from reality by attacking it...denying it...destroying it? That's what you've been doing." I agree with what Robin is saying here. Gully has been running away from reality and has just been focused on revenge but doing everything possible to get revenge on someone isnt living life and facing reality. i also dont think Gully has any idea because he is so taken by revenge.- Taylor Vladic
Pg. 179 " Yes. Kempsey. Name and address. In return for your promise to let me go."
"It's a sale," he said " you can go. give it to me." This just proves what Robin was preaching on the previous page. I agree with robin that Gully is Attack-Escape. He always try hunt down people that were on the Vorgo ship.
Page 180. " Grow up, girl. I had to swear to anything to get this. I need you more than ever now. Not for Vorga. I'll handle Vorga myself. For something more important." Wow. This is just one more sign that Gully's getting his conscience. His main goal is to get back at Vorga, and now he says he has something more important on his mind? This could be a big turning point if he starts to date Presteign of Presteign's daughter.-Bryant Sell
I agree with Bryant. For the entire book, Foyle's main goal was to seek revenge on Vorga, and suddenly there is something more important? It seems odd that the whole book up until this point was about getting back at Vorga, and now it is going to be something different? - Julie Carney
I think Gully isn't saying that something is more important that Vorga, he was saying that he needed Robin for something other that Vorga. He said that he can handle Vorga without Robin, but he needs Robin to get to Vorga. *kayle Giarth*
Pg. 170: "No. We hit it off the minute we met. He started off capturing me; I ended up capturing him." I first got this impression when I read this, but it just seems like Jiz is using Saul, and doesn't really love him. I really don't think Jisbella is capable of loving another, at least not after what Gully did to her.-Tim Galbraith
- I agree with Tim. It didnt sound like Jiz was really into Saul and she was just trying to get Gully mad or jealous for what he did. -[lauryn colmer]
Pg. 176: "Make it a savage war between us. Don't win me...destroy me!" This is a very strong indication that Olivia is not very happy with her life. She has such extraordinary powers but overall, they prevent her from being happy. It's exactly the same thing as a very rich person having everything but still being very unhappy with it all.-Tim Galbraith
Pg 175 "No. it's too late, my dear,...Here comes a whole cluster of red streaks...down, down, down...directly at us. There'll be no escaping this." Oliva tricks Gully to see how much he loves her. She expects him to jaunt away leaving her to die, but instead, her stays to die with her. He shows her that he loves her and would die for her. She is just like Gully when he deserted Jiz. Oliva laughs after she tricks him. like she thought it was funny that Gully thought he was going to die. *Kayle Giarth*
Pg. 170 " And i killed the tiger." Jiz says this and she means that she taught Gully Foyle many things like self control to be able to hide his face when he was stressed out or angry. So killing the tiger she means by his tiger face when he gets angry. -Victor Lemus
I agree with Marissa.
